The place as an on-going artistic creation
Since its foundation, HaMiffal has operated as a living, continuous art work. The founding artists collective, alongside hundreds of additional makers, continues to add unique layers to the place, through long-term creative processes, conservation and collaborations. The artworks at HaMiffal are not a mere sum of exhibitions – it shapes the space, creating new layers, telling the places’ story. The public is invited to partake in the process, through various programs, including gathering on Tuesdays, where the magic is collaboratively manufactured.
The Lorenzo-Seraphin House and its history
HaMiffal resides in the Seraphin-Lorenzo House, a spectacular building constructed in the late 19th century by brothers Anton and Pascal of the Seraphin family– one of Jerusalem’s prominent Christien-Arabic families. Throughout the years, the house hosted a wide range of residents – from Arab tenets, to Jewish educational institutions – and served as backdrop to historical changes that underwent in the city. The building was deserted in 2006 and remained forgotten, until the beginning of HaMiffal operations in 2015, when his fascinating story was re-discovered. Through research, preservation and artistic collaborations, the house became a lively cultural center, inviting anyone who enters its doors to delve and uncover the rich history and culture hidden within it.
